Compression Testing of Springs

Compression springs are used in a variety of industrial appliances such as pumps, regulators, and pressure sensitive switches.  For each application, manufacturers will specify the desired spring characteristics (spring rate, load at height, etc) and acceptable tolerances.  Both spring manufactures and their clients perform quality testing on compression springs to ensure they are acceptable for their intended application. For successful spring testing, it is critical to define both load and position in tandem. We recommend using an SF Series spring tester and Partner™ Spring Testing Software to ensure the most accurate results.  Specifically designed for spring testing, the SF series is ultra-stiff for accurate load and position measurements while Partner Software is equipped with built-in calculations for reporting common compression spring data such as:
  • Free height (Lo)
  • Load at height (load @ height)
  • Spring rate (or multiple spring rates) and,
  • Block height (Lbl)

Additionally, we have used custom calculations in Partner software to perform a pass/fail check of compression springs to test if they are suitable for the intended application.
